With a rich history spanning four generations, the Berta family has been producing grappa since the beginning of the 20th century.

In 1947, a young, newly graduated oenologist named Paolo Berta established his family's first distillery in Nizza Monferrato.

Though the Berta family had been deeply rooted in the Asti wine industry for decades—his father Giovanni had built a strong entrepreneurial network with his younger brother Michele, who was known for selling Barolo Chinato—Paolo's new venture quickly achieved international acclaim. Its success was due in large part to the steady stream of international wine trade professionals visiting the nearby sparkling wine producers in Canelli, who were quick to recognize the quality of his work.
