Donnachiara new Concept Winery is located in Montefalcione an ancient small village in Avellino province. Avellino province was a powerful area during the Etruscan era. This ancient land was a specific choice of the Petitto family for the production of the three DOCG wines of Irpinia: Fiano di Avellino,Taurasi and Greco di Tufo, in addition to the DOC wines: Aglianico, Falanghina, and Coda di Volpe. chiara-petittoThe modern cellar was completed in 2005. The vineyards have been in the the family for 150 years. The current Manager Director is Ilaria Petitto and her mother Chiara. Chiara is the granddaughter of the Donna Chiara whom the winery was named. Donnachiara saw the estate trought two world wars, on her own as her husband Antonio Petitto, Colonel doctor in the Italian Red Cross was off to war. Chiara Mazzarelli Petitto comes from a noble family originally from Maiori on the Amalfi Coast. She was married to a noble surgeon Antonio Petitto of Avellino. Petitto’s family was awarded the noble title of Marquis directly from the King of Italy at the end of 700. The land possessions of the family ranged between Montefusco, Montemiletto, Venticano and Torre le Nocelle.
